Spaghetti and Meatballs?

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg minced beef or turkey
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 cup parmesan, grated
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil, finely chopped
  • salt and pepper to season
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

(for the sauce)

  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  • salt and pepper to season
  • fresh basil to serve

Method:

  1. In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients for the meatballs except for the meat.
  2. Add the meat and mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Shape the meat into golf ball sized meatballs.
  4. Cook the meatballs in batches over a medium heat until browned.
  5. Once all of the meatballs have been browned place them to one side.
  6. Using the same pan, cook off the onion for the sauce.
  7. Add the red wine and cook for 1 minute.
  8. Add the chopped tomatoes and give it a stir.
  9. Gently place the meatballs into the sauce and simmer for and hour and 45 minutes.
  10. Serve with freshly cooked spaghetti and garnish with basil. Garlic bread is also amazing with this… just fyi.
